7 Ways To Manage Stress
As we are approaching the ‘silly season’ I thought it would be a good idea to help you put some strategies into place. As you are getting busier you can practice these techniques and enjoy this time. You may have had a situation arise that has allowed you to create stress in your life.
1. Stay in the present moment – When you have alot to do it is easy to let your mind take over and keep reminding us of all the things we ‘have’ to do. When you are in the moment, focus on what you are doing right now, and there will be no stress. Say to yourself, “I’m doing xxxx right now”, focus totally and completely on that, then when you have finished that job, move to what comes next.
2. Write a list – Write everything down – a master list and dump everything in your mind on this list. Then break that down into daily, weekly, monthly and number in order of importance. When you do this it takes it all out of your mind and you don’t need to keep reminding yourself of what you need to do. If you find there is too much to do ASK FOR HELP. We seem to think we are super women or men and can do everything. Asking for help is a great way to relieve stress.
3. Breathe- When you are feeling stressed we forget to breathe, your breathing becomes shallow and this puts stress on the body. Take a few deep breaths and blow out the negative feelings and while you are doing this tell yourself how you want to feel. “I am feeling peaceful and relaxed” or “I am happy and balanced” Practice this, it’s a beautiful process to do regularly and notice the lovely feelings you create in your body and the clarity that comes into your mind. If you are feeling overwhelmed, go outside and do this breathing technique and focus on the outcome you would like.
4. Focus on positive outcomes – What we focus on we get. Focus on what you DO want and that’s what will happen, focus on what you DON’T want and that’s what you will get. When you get bogged down in negative thought patterns, negative emotions follow. Negative thoughts make your mind clouded and this then spills into all areas of your life. For example – if you are saying to yourself that you “don’t have enough time” this will also be created in your life. Saying “ I have plenty of time” will create exactly that.
5. Diet & Exercise – Exercise is a major stress reliever. Just as your thoughts and feelings affect the health of your physical body, your physical condition also influences your mental and emotional state. When you feel physically healthy, strong and grounded, you also feel more emotionally and mentally balanced. In times of stress we often tend to not eat properly. Too much sugar, fatty food and not enough water in the diet increases stress levels and clouds the mind. Nourish yourself with healthy food, exercise and lots of water. Your mind and body will respond with clarity, increased energy levels and positive feelings.
6. Nurture yourself – Time for you and nurturing yourself is so important during times of stress. When you are stressed and doing things for others all the time this in turn creates more stress, anger and resentment. Nurturing yourself and taking time for you is an amazing stress reliever. You are then able to give more. When you are giving to yourself with exercise, time out, going down to the beach, sitting outside and having a cup of tea or reading a book, taking a bubble bath, meeting a friend for coffee or lunch, having a massage, sitting under a tree etc, these are all lovely ways to nurture yourself. It is so important to look after your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing so you are then able to look after others and your goals.
7. Relaxation and Healing Techniques – Meditation, yoga and Reiki are just a couple of ways for relaxation and healing. The benefits are amazing and you will feel so much better. You may like to get a meditation CD, a Yoga video or attend a class. Reiki relaxes the mind and body and allows you to heal the underlying cause of your stress.

If you are finding you are overwhelmed with stress, try Australian Bush Flower Essences – emergency essence is available from your health foods store and is amazing for healing and relaxing the mind and body. I can also make up an essence tailored for your individual needs.
Following the steps above, or even including a couple of them in your life will dramatically lower your stress levels. Remember you can do everything you want and need to do in a relaxed state, there is no need to have that ‘stressful’ feeling in your mind and body. Include some FUN and laughter as well.
The tips above are just a few amongst many. If you would like help with your individual circumstances or organizing your time to create balance in your life I am available for appointment via phone or in person.
